Bazaar Babe ~ Ann from Golden Daze Illustrations

Sugarland is a technicolour trip back to yesteryear and when designing this kaleidoscopic collection, we needed the perfect illustration artist that could bring our T-shirt vision to life! Ann from Golden Daze Illustration was the visionary for the job. Specialising in psychedelic graphics inspired by the '60s and '70s, it was a retro match made in heaven. Find out about the artist behind our new magic mushroom Tee.

Tell us a little about yourself and where you are from?

Hi, I'm a '60s and '70s inspired illustration artist. I was born in Guatemala City but I moved to Barcelona 6 years ago and I've been here since.

We just love your retro inspired artwork! How long have you been designing for?

I've been designing for about 8 years now. It all started when I lived in England for 4 years. All these amazing surprises and opportunities started developing. It was so huge to be working and designing for famous brands!

Where do you draw inspiration from?

At first I would have to say, my Dad's records. He would sit with me on the floor when I was little and play his cool psychedelic records. I would play and watch all these records from the '60s and '70s. Also my Grandma Pia used to watch a lot '60s and '70s Mexican and Spanish films. That's when I started to like fashion from the '60s and '70s and I started to wear vintage clothing. Believe me, I'm in love with the fashion from these decades.

What do you love most about the '60s and '70s?

I must say movies like Wonderwall- it really kills me! Italian and French films from the '60s, the fashion and the psychedelic patterns. OMG the music- so many incredible bands like LE ORME! I loved the Victorian psychedelic fashion styles, so amazing! And the artists like Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso, Bridget Riley, Peter Max, Bonnie Maclean, Lee Conklin and loads more...

What do you love most about your job as an Illustration Artist?

I love making my customers happy, collaborating with brands, using my mind to work and develop my own art and creating my own designs.

How would you describe your personal style?
I would define myself as mystic psychedelic mixed with the '60s and '70s.

I always wear '70s high waisted multicolour pants or jeans, long cute dresses like The Virgin Suicide prom style haha or '60s mini dresses with psychedelic patterns. Style icons that inspire me are Jane Birkin, Kathy Etchingham, Anna Wohlin, Des Barres, Mariska Veres, Anita Pallenberg and Eddie Sedgwick.
